Why South Africa

The three things that go wrong offshore don't go wrong here.

Teams that have hired overseas before have usually been burned by the English, the hours, or the churn. South Africa is the market where all three go your way.

“Will the English hold up in front of my clients?”
Yes. It's their first business language.

English is the language of South African business, universities and courts. You hear it yourself in every candidate's intro video before the first interview.

“Will they actually work my hours?”
Yes, without night shifts. See the chart.

South Africa sits at UTC+2: the full working day for the UK and Europe, and five to eight live hours with US teams depending on your time zone and the shift you agree.

“Will they stay, or is this a stepping stone?”
They stay. Your role is the best path from where they are.

Your salary band is two to three times the local equivalent, so the person you hire is not shopping for the next job. Our largest client has hired from every batch since June.

Cape Town works 12:00 to 20:00 South African time; New York's working day is 15:00 to 23:00 in the same clock. 5 shared hours, light day-shift.

Candidates for US teams work a light day-shift (roughly 12:00–20:00 SAST), which covers standups, planning and most synchronous work with the East Coast. Central gets one hour less.
Why MrCareerz

“Can't I just post the job myself?”

You can. A worldwide job post brings hundreds of applicants in a week, and most are wrong for the role. What you pay us for is the screening: we read every profile, check the English and the hours, and send you only the people worth an interview.

How a brief becomes a shortlist
Marco van der Merwe, founder · 3 min
Why we built MrCareerz

South Africans are every bit as good as anyone we've worked with. They just don't get the same access.

Marco van der Merwe, Founder
“I got my first international job through a lucky introduction. Same skills, same work ethic, roughly three times the pay, and the only thing that changed was that someone finally saw me. There are thousands of people here waiting on that same piece of luck. MrCareerz is me trying to take the luck out of it.”
Stefan van der Merwe, Co-founder
“My agency's clients are American. My team is South African. I hire exactly the way we're asking our clients to hire, and it's the best staffing decision I've made.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Anything else, email marco@mrcareerz.com and Marco answers personally.

Who employs the candidate, and how do contracts work?
You engage the candidate directly under your own MSA and contractor agreement. Candidates are typically independent contractors, equivalent to 1099-NEC, and complete a W-8BEN on engagement since they aren't US tax residents. Clients who want a W-2-style arrangement use an EOR. We never take a cut of salary.
What happens after I submit the role?
Within one working day you get an email with the role written up as we understood it, the fee in writing, and a sample profile. You confirm or correct the brief by reply, and sourcing starts that day. No call unless you want one.
What if I don't like anyone on the shortlist?
Tell us why, in a line, and we send another round. You pay nothing until you hire, so a shortlist that misses costs you a few minutes, not a fee.
Do I pay anything if I don't hire?
No. Sourcing, screening and the shortlist are free. The hiring fee is invoiced once, when you confirm a hire.
Can I hire several people at once?
Yes. One brief per role, run in parallel. Several clients have hired three or four people through us in the same month. Hiring more than one? Ask us.
Do I have to work with you exclusively?
No. Run your own posting alongside us if you like; the fee only applies to a candidate we introduced.
